NSW councils provide invaluable services to local communities, 365 days a year. While many people are aware that councils manage rates, roads and rubbish, the breadth and diversity of their work often goes unrecognised.

Held each year at the end of July/start of August, Local Government Week sees councils across NSW host a range of great events and activities to showcase their day-to-day work to the community. Examples include:

  • Family fun days
  • Multicultural fairs
  • Photographic competitions
  • Mock council meetings for local students
  • Heritage walks
  • Bush care days
  • Tours of council facilities like art galleries and recreation centres.

The theme for 2018 is The Power Of Community. Follow the Local Government Week events and activities on social media using the hashtag #LGWeek2018.
