Activate Inclusion Sports Days continue to grow through regional NSW
Published Fri 24 Nov 2017
November 2017 has been the busiest month yet for Activate Inclusion Sports Day with over 450 students participating across three regional days in Coffs Harbour, Tamworth and Lake Macquarie.
During these three days over 15 sports participated, providing adaptive physical education to students with physical, sensory and intellectual disability in an inclusive environment.
Thanks to our Partner Variety - The Children's Charity NSW, coaches, teachers and students joined together with their community councils and organisations to support more opportunities for kids who don’t always get a fair go when it comes to sport and active recreation.
With Northern Beaches being the last Activate Inclusion Sports Day on the 2017 calendar the program was really boosted across regional NSW.
Disability Inclusion Manager, Murray Elbourn said “Communities are embracing this concept of really engaging across councils, universities, sporting organisations, health and education in delivering these days”.
With a total of eight days in 2017, Sport NSW views this as just the beginning. Our 2018 Calendar is all ready to be released with days planned to further support all ability students who just want to use sport and active recreation to have fun, meet new friends and gain valuable skills around balance, coordination and communication in a team atmosphere.
