Blind Football 5-A-Side
Published Mon 14 Aug 2017
After many years of discussion, Blind Football is ready to prepare for a national launch around Australia led by David Connolly (Manager appointed by Blind Sports Australia to run this new national program). After the success of the Athletes With Disabilities Futsal League in NSW, (which has seen the Vision Impaired team Weatherall Park Raiders win the 2016/17 Grand Final and State League in Division 2) as well as the ground swell of interest and participation across varied competitions in VIC, the two states held the first ever National Program Training Camp at Ultimate Soccer in Fairfield on August 26 and 27. Officials from state programs including SA, ACT, VIC and NSW were in attendance. Additionally, the Head Coach of the Cerebral Palsy Pararoos team was on hand to support this initiative. |
David Connolly will travel to other states adding to the training squad, with the aim to host the first National Blind and Vision Impaired Football Championships in Australia during 2018.
Sport NSW is seeking volunteers who can contribute to coaching, officiating, goalkeeping and administration support across the program. To get involved please contact our Disability Inclusion Manager, Murray Elbourn via email at inclusion@sportnsw.com.au
