Sport NSW is pleased to announce the upcoming Activate Inclusion Sports Day with partner Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW, to be hosted by City of Parramatta, Cumberland Council and Hills Shire Council at Netball Central on Wednesday 27th June, 2018.
The Activate Inclusion program is a ground-breaking initiative focused on providing sporting pathways for students aged 5 to 18 years with a physical, intellectual or sensory disability. The day also caters for students with learning and mental health difficulties.
The program is delivered with the support of Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW and offers children who are often segregated from main stream school PE due to a lack of adaption knowledge and adaptive equipment, the opportunity to experience a variety of sports in a fun and inclusive environment. This event caters for up to 150 participants who will take part in the day, with a range of sports being showcased across the program including AFL, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Little Athletics, Netball, Tennis and Touch Football.
Sport NSW Chief Executive Officer Darren Simpson is delighted to collaborate with Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW and the host councils across this unique opportunity.
“Sport NSW is thrilled to host this event in conjunction with Variety, Cumberland, the Hills Shire and Parramatta, and I hope the program inspires the participants to take part in regular sporting opportunities in their local community,” Mr Simpson said.
Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW Chief Executive Officer David Sexton said every kid, no matter their level of ability should be able to enjoy the fun of playing sport.
“Every child deserves the chance to have a go at playing sport. We are proud to partner with Sport NSW, Cumberland, the Hills Shire and Parramatta so kids of all abilities have the opportunity to try different sports in a fun and inclusive environment,” Mr Sexton said.
“It’s wonderful the students can experience playing side by side, often for the very first time.”
