Sport NSW held its third State Sporting Organisation Knowledge Exchange Inclusion program with AFL NSW/ACT in The Sydney Swans Learning Centre at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday, February 6th.
Murray Elbourn, the Sport NSW Disability Inclusion Promotions Officer, delivers the Knowledge Exchange Inclusion Program which provides a two hour theory training session of knowledge based learning around the physical, intellectual and sensory disability spectrum. This also includes sections on mental health and learning challenges.
Members of the AFL development team were joined by the Sydney Swans community team in the training program. After the theory a practical coaching session was set up with kids with sensory and behavioural challenges. Sydney Swans players Nick Smith and Buddy Franklin joined in the practical session and were amazing with the participants.
Jenni Cole, CEO of Disability Sports Australia also presented on Wheelchair AFL and spoke about the great work happening in other states which NSW will now build a program around in the near future.
After positive feedback from AFL employees more sessions of this nature will be planned to go hand in hand with upcoming try out days for the AFL Inclusion National Carnival, which is being held in Tasmania later this year.
