Lightbulb Moments - Andrew Stevens

Published Tue 14 Mar 2017

The first episode of Lightbulb Moments features Andrew Stevens. Andrew is a former CEO of IBM and is currently Chairman of Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre as well as being a Director of the Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL club.

While a strong supporter of sport, Andrew is adamant that there is still plenty to do in terms of gender equality.  “Sport – it’s vibrant in this country, but when we look at the implications for women in leadership and women’s sport generally I think we still have quite a way to go,” he says in the interview.

According to Andrew the same principles apply equally in the business world. “Unless we consciously include women the system will subconsciously exclude women. Set targets with teeth for female representation in every aspect of the business and make people accountable to achieve them.”

Lightbulb Moments is a video series exclusive to the Sport NSW website where Sport NSW Director Susan Horwitz speaks to leaders in the corporate and sporting world about leadership and equality on and off the field. The conversations focus in on the ‘lightbulb moments’ during the careers of these leaders and explore the ideas that have shaped them and led them to make changes in their own lives and the organisations they run.
