The spoils of 2016 have continued for Rio Paralympian Maddison Elliott after she claimed yet another accolade on Thursday night at the 2016 NSW Sports Awards, being named NSW Athlete of the Year with a Disability for the second consecutive year.

It adds to a growing list of awards in 2016 for Maddie where she was named Paralympic Swimmer of the Year as well as NSWIS Regional Athlete, Junior Athlete and Female Athlete of the Year.

By her own account 2016 began with its own set of personal challenges for Maddie when she lost a close friend.  However, she channelled her energy into her training determined to overcome the challenges, dedicating her performances to her friend.  And she did that with great success.

At the Rio Paralympics Maddie won three gold and two silver medals, breaking two world records for good measure.  With her gold in the S8 50m Freestyle she became the first woman in history to go under 30 seconds.
