Premier Inclusion League to grow opportunities for players with disabilities
Published Wed 15 Feb 2017
In 2016 our Members NSW Touch Football and NSW Rugby League in conjunction with the NRL conducted an eight-week trial of the Premier Inclusion League (PIL) with four teams including Manly, Hills, Penrith and Wests competing in the Vawdon Cup. The inaugural competition included players with intellectual, physical and sensory disabilities with Hills Hornets taking home the prize for 2016.
The Premier Inclusion League was formed to better represent the game of rugby league across the disability spectrum for inclusion participants. Formed with the support of Sport NSW and the Office of Sport the league is now focused on expansion and recruitment of interested participants in preparation for a scheduled start in July.
On Sunday 5 March, community partner "Ability Operations" will host the round of Many vs Parramatta at Brookvale Oval. Following the match there will be a demonstration of Premier Inclusion League between Manly and defending champions Hills.
Further trials will be held in the coming weeks and months leading into the regular season.
For those interested in registering to play in the Premier Inclusion League or partnering as sponsors to support its development and growth please contact Murray Elbourn, Disability Inclusion Manager, Sport NSW on 0427 186 734 or murray.elbourn@sportnsw.com.au
