As part of the research and consultation phase for the upcoming NSW Sport and Active Recreation Sector Strategy - 'Future Directions' - Sport NSW worked with Active Xchange to investigate the benefits of an advanced approach to demand for sporting programs.

This platform has been developed to support both delivery and commissioning organisations to match the resident profile of suburbs (and LGAs) with demand for specific programs and sports, acting as a match making toolkit to grow active communities. The platform will help different partners to collaborate more effectively, underpinning decisions with independent and up to date intelligence.

For the first time demand projections have been built from hundreds of thousands of current member records (initial sport club records provided by State Sport Organisations). This is a sector collaboration that any administration / delivery organisation can join. The aim is to create more active and healthy communities.

“Harnessing the power of data and shared market intelligence to help make delivery, planning and investment decisions more informed and coordinated is a fundamental capability for our sector. It is a key building block to the growth and maintenance of sustainable sport organisations, and ultimately the creation of more active and healthy communities across NSW and Australia. It goes without saying we’re extremely excited about the partnership and journey we’re on with Sport NSW and a growing network of progressive SSOs".

Alex Burrows, Founder, ActiveXchange

"Sport NSW partnered with ActiveXchange to undertake predictive analytics to forecast demand initially for nine sports in NSW. The result provides the sports (and wider stakeholders) with powerful data on their scope for growth, the geographical locations where the growth is most likely and the risk of participant drop-out mapped to specific clubs and locations. This proves that there is a significant opportunity for analysis of this nature to be undertaken throughout the sport and recreation sector in NSW to better tailor the offer to existing and potential participants."
