Students Welcome Sports Day with a Twist
Published Thu 24 May 2018
A lack of adaptive equipment and rules can be a hurdle for children with disabilities who are keen to join a local sporting team.
In Coffs Harbour, over 150 local students who are faced with this daily challenge, were able to take part in a sports day with a welcome twist.
Sport NSW's Activate Inclusion Sports Days are designed to engage students aged 5 to 18 years with a physical, intellectual or sensory disability. The day also caters for students with learning and mental health difficulties.
The program is delivered with the support of Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW and offers children, who are often segregated from main stream school PE due to a lack of adaption knowledge and adaptive equipment, the opportunity to experience a variety of sports in a fun and inclusive environment.
