Dear [[NAME]],

COVID-19 Update

The impact of COVID-19, both real and perceived is evolving at a rapid rate. Sport NSW is actively monitoring the latest updates and will continue to update its members and stakeholders throughout the pandemic.

A Return to Sport for Under 18's from 1 July 2020

It was announced last week by the Deputy Premier, John Barilaro, that “kids’ sport can resume across NSW from 1 July."

Sport NSW have prepared a document outlining what is currently known and some of the key considerations regarding the Government's announcement.

It is important to note that until further information is provided, in NSW, there is still the requirement for State Sporting Organisations (SSOs) and SSOs for people with a Disability (SSODs) to comply with current Public Health Orders. If a sport requires an exemption to the Public Health Orders, then an application requesting exemption is required. Pleae see the Sport NSW Release dated 22 May 2020 for further information (click here).

Term 3 Activate Inclusion Sports Days Postponed

Sport NSW and Variety - the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT have declared that all Activate Inclusion Sports Days due to take place in NSW School Term 3 have been postponed, following the previous announcement of all Term 1 and 2 postponements. This decision has been made in accordance with recommendations from NSW Health and advice from NSW Department of Education, as communities across NSW adapt to the new COVID-safe environment.

The postponed events for Term 3 include Kempsey on 30th July, Port Macquarie on 31st July, Singleton on 9th September, Lake Macquarie on 11th September and Penrith on 17th September. Sport NSW and Variety - the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT will work closely with host councils in early September to review health advice and monitor the situation, prior to determining whether Term 4 events will go ahead. It is the intention of Sport NSW and Variety - the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT to return to these regions in 2021, with registered schools from 2020 receiving priority to attend.

Active Abilities Series

Sport NSW recently announced the launch of the Active Abilities Series by people with a disability, for people with a disability.

During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Murray Elbourn, Disability Inclusion Manager at Sport NSW, identified the scarcity of specific online exercise content for people with a disability – despite the increasing options for able-bodied people.

Sport NSW collaborated with Rachelle Sultana, Head Exercise Physiologist at Healthstin, seven incredible NSW and Australian representative athletes from across the physical, sensory and intellectual disability spectrum, and the team from Hustle Media to create workout sessions for people with disabilities.

The program features three levels: 10-minute introductory, 15-minute intermediate and 30-minute sport participant exercises that are designed for the following disabilities:

  • Blind or Low Vision
  • Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Autism
  • Down Syndrome
  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Quadriplegia & Paraplegia

COVIDSafe App
  COVIDSafe App

The COVIDSafe app has been developed by the Australian Government as part of their work to slow the spread of COVID-19. The app is designed to help find and contain outbreaks quickly, meaning governments can start to ease restrictions while still keeping Australians safe.

The COVIDSafe app helps find close contacts of COVID-19 cases. The app helps state and territory health officials to quickly contact people who may have been exposed to COVID-19. This reduces the chances of you passing on the virus to your family, friends and other people in the community.

Sport NSW is supporting the government and encouraging the sporting community to download the COVIDSafe app. Downloading the app is completely voluntary, however we hope it will assist in the easing of restrictions and help keep our community safer as we start to return to sport and other activities.

For all the information on the COVIDSafe app, please click here.
