Dear [[NAME]],

COVID-19 Update

The NSW Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, last week announced the release of updated advice for the sector relating to spectator attendance at community sport, as well as school sport and outdoor education activities.

From Saturday 26 September, interregional community sporting competitions can recommence without restricting these activities to regions or zones, where there is a COVID-19 Safety Plan for the community sporting activity in place.

The advice provided in August regarding limiting spectators to one parent per child, and inter-region sport and recreation activities has been removed, however organisations must still ensure their activity is delivered in compliance with the Public Health Order and the COVID-19 Safety Plan requirements.

This includes the requirement to adhere to the 500-person limit for community sport activitiies (including participants, officials and spectators) and adhering to the one person per four square metre rule. Organisations and spectators must also ensure that physical distancing of at least 1.5 metres is maintained between people that do not come from the same household.

Sport Conversations: Re-thinking sports media in the new world
Sport Conversations: Re-thinking sports media in the new world

Thank you to those who joined our recent webinar Sport Conversations: Re-thinking sports media in the new world.

For those who were unable to attend the session, it was a great discussion on the need and opportunity available to keep promoting sport (played by females) in the media. We encourage you all to take on the challenge to continue to push the promotion of women in sport across old and new media platforms. In doing so, please do consider the role women are playing across the board in sport as not only athletes but also as administrators, leaders, officials, coaches and more.

Youth Action Project Grant Scheme

For young Australians, 2020 has been a tough year. The impact of bushfires, COVID-19 and the ongoing challenges with employment, mental health and transportation have had a profound impact on the lives of young people. This grant scheme will respond by providing funding to projects that support young people, from 15 - 24 years, as they navigate and recover from this period.

The grants are open to both individuals and organisations, with two kinds of projects supported:

  1. New projects that recognise and uniquely respond to the hardship young people are facing now and will face in the future.
  2. Existing projects that provide a valuable on-going service to young people, which require additional funding to adapt or continue that work given the impact of the current environment.

The projects must support young people aged 15-24 years, must not be commercial and should conclude by 18 June, 2021. Funding amounts between $5,000 and $20,000 are available.

Applications are now open and close on Wednesday, 7 October 2020. To find out more, please click here.

Cricket program for deaf and hard of hearing children

Cricket NSW and NSW Deaf Sports have partnered together to provide an exclusive cricket program for deaf and hard of hearing children. The Junior Blasters Program will run for 8 weeks, on Fridays from 16 October until 4 December at 6.30pm - 7.30pm at the Max Ruddock Reserve in Winston Hills, NSW.

Kids will be coached by Cricket NSW's Deaf Cricket team coach, Chris Ashenden.

The Junior Blasters aims to provide kids with an opportunity to build their skills through fun, game based activities. The games are designed for small groups to ensure every child gets a go, allowing them to test and learn new skills. When kids have mastered the basics, they will be ready to graduate to Master Blasters where they play modified games of cricket.
