Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

Sport NSW wishes all of our members, partners, supporters and subscribers a safe, happy and relaxing Christmas and New Year period.

2020 has been a challenging year, but we are already well into the planning for 2021 and look forward to working with you again across our many programs and events.

The Sport NSW office will be closed from Friday 18 December and will re-open on Monday 4 January. Look out for the first edition of Blues eNews for 2021 on Tuesday 19 January.

COVID-19 Update

The NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, recently announced the further easing of COVID-19 restrictions, including updated advice for community sport and active recreation activities. To read the full release, please click here.

From Monday, 7 December, the NSW Government eased the following restrictions:

Square metre rule:

  • 1 person per 2 square metres (in place of the previous 1 person per 4 square metres), with the exception being gyms;
  • Gyms must maintain 1 person per 4 square metres and a maximum of 50 people at any one time.

Gatherings in outdoor public spaces:

  • Up to 100 people for outdoor gatherings (up from 50);
  • Up to 5,000 people for outdoor events that are fenced, ticketed and seated (subject to the 2sqm rule);
  • Up to 3,000 people for other organised outdoor events (subject to 2sqm rule) - ie. community sport activities.

Stadiums and theatres:

  • Outdoor stadiums can fill up to 100% of seated capacity, and 1 person per 2 square metres for unstructured seating areas;
  • Indoor stadiums can fill up to 75% of seated capacity.

All organisations are reminded that they must continue to comply the current Public Health Order and ensure they have a up to date COVID-19 Safety Plan in place.

In 2020 five exceptional athletes were chosen for induction into the NSW Hall of Champions, and one athlete was elevated to Legend status.

Unfortunately the ongoing impact of coronvairus has meant the NSW Champions of Sport induction ceremony was not able to be held in 2020.

We look forward to celebrating with the inductees in 2021 and invite you to view their outstanding achievements here.

Australian Sports Foundation Athlete Survey

The Australian Sports Foundation is conducting a 10-minute athlete survey to help assess the financial impact that COVID-19 is having on aspiring state and national level athletes.

Through this survey, ASF hopes to gain a greater understanding of the impact on athletes so they can continue to support sport following the pandemic.

Athletes who complete the survey will go into the draw to win one of 2 x ISC SPORT apparel prize packs to the value of $250 each for their time.

Local Sporting Champions

The Local Sporting Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships.

If successful, applicants will receive $500-$750 towards the cost of attending their championships.

Round 3 applications are currently open and close on Thursday, 31 December 2020.

The Sport NSW Sporting Grants Summary monitors available Grants (returning and new) from around NSW. 

Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program
This program aims to provide NSW sports clubs the opportunity to acquire an automated external defibrillator (AED) package for their club or sports facility at a reduced cost. Applications are now open, with assessments on 23 November 2020, 22 February 2021 and final applications closing at 5pm Monday, 12 April 2021.
